Donald Trump has finally called out social media for their mass censorship of right wing users in a series of 3 tweets. Trump has stated that social media companies are totally discriminating against conservative voices, and that the Trump administration will not let that continue. Trump also stated that if you are going after fake news, then there is nothing so fake as CNN & MSNBC, but no one demands they are censored for their sick and deranged behaviour. Trump stated correctly that censorship is a dangerous thing, and that it is better to let everybody participate, good and bad, and let everyone figure it out as they go.
Social media platforms may have finally crossed the line, and their political motivations have become clear with the mid term elections looming over the horizon. The censorship of users on the right is being seen by many as attempted election meddling by the very liberal and left leaning big tech at Silicon Valley. The Trump administration has vowed to take action and not a moment too soon. With the 2020 presidential elections only 2 years away, many Trump supporters will fear having their voices crushed by big tech monopolies, working in collusion with the Democrat party and George Soros.
This comes only about a week after Infowars and Alex Jones were banned from Youtube, Facebook and many others. Alex Jones made a passionate plea to Trump by video on Twitter, the only social media platform he had remaining, and was promptly banned for 7 days by Twitter. The banning of Alex Jones however, only strengthened the resolve of his millions of followers, and the Infowars podcast gained over 5.6 million subscribers within 48 hours, and the Infowars app became the 3rd most popular on the Apple store. This may have been a huge contributing factor in bringing this politically motivated censorship to the attention of the president.
Trump recently promised to look into Twitter's "discriminatory and illegal practice" of shadow banning also. This was in response to many Republicans and conservatives discovering they were Quality Filter Shadow banned, or QFD banned. When an account is QFD banned it does not show up in any searches, such as hashtags, unless the quality filter is disabled each and every time. The quality filter is enabled by default.
This would have the effect of stealthily manipulating the public discourse away from conservatives and toward the left.
All in all this is aready a huge victory for everyone on the right, who has been unfairly censored by the big tech monopolies of Silicon Valley. But it is long past due that the constitutional rights of Americans are protected on social media.
