The New England Patriots defensive line, specifically Deatrich Wise Jr. and Adam Butler have revealed the Patriot’s secret weapon. A strong team bond through the power of Anime.
Adam and Deatrich have said they are both huge fans of Dragonball Z, Naruto, and One Piece and many others, and they often send each other Anime memes on Twitter and Instagram and also talk about how far behind they are on specific Animes.
This is a huge improvement from the neo-liberal corporatist culture shilled by the likes of Colin Kaepernick. In fact, Anime is often seen as the last refuge from the invasive neo-liberal or globo-homo culture that seems to infect other forms of media so pervasively.
Back on Christmas Eve of 2017, Deatrich and Adam celebrated their defensive play against the Jets by channeling iconic Kamehameha energy attack from Dragonball Z. The move solidified their dedication to the Anime, and that passion is something that helped them connect with teammates early on.
"It was planned, we were talking about it one day, and then Adam was like, our next sack, we got to hit the Dragon Ball Z."
It all started when Adam Butler wore something from Naruto, and from there it became a way for the Patriots to connect in a way beyond football. As well as Deatrich and Adam, some former veterans got in on the conversations, most notably Lawrence Guy but also Alan Branch, Geneo Grissom, and Eric Lee.
The Dragonball Z celebration is a huge contrast in culture from the usual dance move or high five, however, with the power of the Kamehameha energy attack behind them, the Patriots might just have been getting the edge they need.
