The news has already been confirmed by Netflix, who will receive several seasons of the series in exclusive. The author of the books that underpinned the development of video games will be a creative consultant during production.
The Witcher 3 is one of the most popular games of 2015 and has even been considered by several entities the best game of the year. But the RPG story will not end on consoles. According to Netflix itself, the saga will expand to the "television universe" with a series that will be exclusive to the streaming platform.
For now, it is known that it will be a play, spoken in English and will be based not only on the three video games released since 2007 but also the original books of the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.
The American company will work with Sean Daniel and Jason Brown in the production of the series.
In the past, there had been rumors that the game would become a movie, but to be confirmed, will certainly be after the release of these episodes.
The Witcher focuses on the story of Geralt, a mercenary with supernatural powers who kills monsters on demand and was highly acclaimed by critics, winning numerous awards in the video game industry.
"I'm thrilled that Netflix is about to adapt one of my stories by staying true to the original stuff I took over 30 years to write," said Sapkowski, who will be part of the series development team as a creative consultant.
There are no official dates yet for the start of the shoot, but Engadget writes that several seasons will be made.
