Just a few hours ago President Trump gave a speech in the White House to address the “humanitarian crisis” at the border and the ongoing government shutdown. We dispatched one of our talented anime girl reporters to hear him speak and hopefully ask questions, but unfortunately the president went back behind closed doors once his speech was over.
In case you haven’t watched it, the president offered the democrats the following:
- $800M in “Humanitarian assistance” and $805M for drug detection technology at ports of entry.
- Hiring 2,750 new border agents and 75 new immigration judges.
- A 3-year extension for both 700,000 DACA recipients and TPS holders. (two different ways of saying illegal aliens)
Thankfully, the $5.7 billion for the wall is still there. But before Trump even gave his speech, house majority leader Nancy Pelosi turned down the offer, calling it “previously rejected initiatives”
Though it may seem like a bad deal to us, this is still part of the game Trump has been playing from the start, he made the offer knowing that it will be rejected (which was proven true very quickly) to show the public that the democrats will reject any offer Trump makes even if it is to their own benefit, and then use that as pretext for more aggressive action, like the much-anticipated state of emergency that would bypass congress and fund the wall directly.
This kind of beating around the bush is necessary to keep the public opinion in check; the mainstream media still holds a large, albeit declining, power over public opinion and they could cause irreparable damage to Trump’s reputation if he’s not careful. Many of us have given up on “the public” who get their news from MSM outlets and say “orange man bad” in 15 second intervals, but Trump is still hoping to win them over to our side, and only time can tell if he’s successful.
