Alphabet Inc is the evil Oligarch that owns the Google/Youtube Empire among other properties. They were an actor along with many other websites and social media sites that made a general crackdown on speech and user content last year. YouTube's last action in that milieu was to require 10k views on every account for it to be eligible for ad revenue.
Since that time, YouTube has rolled out a pay service. The Service, YouTube Red does a few things. First and foremost, YouTube Red gives you access to TV programs, YouTube Exclusive programs, and movies. YouTube also launched YouTube TV which allows you to watch live TV.
I got an email last night stating that YouTube is yet again moving the bar on content creators before they can monetize their videos. 10k views on a channel were not enough. I worked to meet it as I'm sure others did. No, now you must have 1k subscribers and 4k hours of watch time in 12 months.
Personally, I am not anywhere near the 1k subscriber requirement.
YouTube has a lot at stake with the new services, at least in terms of future profits. Maybe that is why they moved the bar again regarding their ad requirements. Youtube was also paying monetized users a cut from Youtube Red for videos watched by Red subscribers. At the same time though, they say this:
"Today we are announcing changes to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). While our goal remains to keep the YPP open to as many channels as possible, we recognize we need more safeguards in place to protect creator revenue across the YouTube ecosystem."
To me, the statement seems counter-intuitive. It's that 1984 lexicon. Maybe it's just me.
Are they paying me for what I earned? Are they paying you or your friends?
I don't think so, boys and girls.
Alphabet Inc's Revenue in 2016 was $90.27 billion. They can't be expected to make everyone whole.
