Our hope is to dispel some common misconceptions about magic. True magic is neither light nor dark.
As some may know, we work with both dark and light because balance is important.
You can choose either light or dark. That is your choice and I am not here to bash anyone’s beliefs.
The terms “Dark Magick” describe a category of occultism that involves interaction with the hidden, rejected, and denied aspects of nature.
Nature refers not only to the stuff going on around you but includes human nature as well.
Traditional "Dark Arts" include the practice of demonic evocation, summoning of incubi, the breaking of taboos, necromancy, sexual rites, treasure hunting, berserker combat, shape shifting, gaining and employing animal familiars, dealings with savage gods, the use of plant intoxicants and the casting of curses.
A Dark Magician may practice any combination of these traditional arts as well as some more modern ones.
Hypnosis, Chaos Magic, Neo-Druidism and work with extra-terrestrial (and otherwise alien) intelligences are some of the relatively recent developments which all include their own explorations of the dark and disturbing side of things.
Light Magic allows Mages to utilize light as a form of offense and defense. Mages who possess the ability to utilize such Magic are able to generate these elements from focuses or vessels, and manipulate them.
Light Magic is capable of casting various illusions, whether it be to change one's appearance or implanting an image in the mind of various persons. Light magic is an effective teaching tool, and is often a formidable focus in itself, allowing others magic to be more focused and potent.
One of the major aspects of Light magic is that it makes no changes upon those whom spells are cast upon, and unlike Dark magic (that can take an incredible toll on the caster, as well as those around them), Light magic (while tiring) leads to further strength down the road for those whom train most with it.
To be balanced, we need to understand and accept the dark and light aspects of our own nature. Another important point to need to make clear up front about Magic is that, while often stigmatized by mainstream spiritual paths, it is a set of techniques that are useful to anyone interested in embracing their entire self holistically.
However, The "Dark" Arts are best employed by those who also work with the "Light" sides of nature.
Healing doesn't just happen. Wounds don't 'disappear.'
The modern definition maintains that the purpose of light magic is to "do good" or to "bring the practitioner to a higher spiritual state" of enlightenment or consciousness.
The Song and Dance
There are many magicians who are first and foremost knowledge seekers, motivated to transcend all false dichotomies and move beyond good and evil.
Simply, those who have the courage and drive to explore their own shadow.
Once inside the shadow, the entities found there can be recruited into service.
The results being that the entity force, experience, and skills eventually become directly available to the magician with no resistance.
But nothing is free in this world, and some spells cost more than others, to the detriment of many magic users.
So beware and be cautious because magic is a circle.
Venture too far into the Light and Darkness can be right around the corner.
Light can burn with blindness.Dark can freeze with sight.
