Anime Right News (ARN) — European Union Chief Jean-Claude Junker will step down following the 2019 European Elections. Junker said recently in an interview on Deutschlandfunk radio that he would not “…be putting myself forward as a candidate for a second time.”

Junker, 62, who took office on November 1, 2014, has had his first term tainted by Brexit and his on-going feud with United States President Donald Trump.

EU Chief’s can serve up to two, 5-year terms. Each party in the European Council nominates a candidate and the European Parliament then votes on who should become EU President. The European Council members are not elected to their office while the Parliamentary Members are elected every 5 years.
