Anime Right News (ARN) — South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy (R) announced on January 31 that he will not seek reelection. He released a statement on Twitter, below
On January 10th of this year, Representative Gowdy stepped down from the House Ethics Committee, citing a heavy workload. That was just one month ago, now Congressman Gowdy has announced that he will not file for re-election in South Carolina's 4th Congressional District. He also stated that he would not seek election for any other public office. In his statement, which is included in the above tweet, Mr. Gowdy instead said that, "Whatever skills I may have are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress."
Trey Gowdy currently serves on the House Intel. Committee and his letter of resignation was released just a few days before the memo outlining abuse of the FISA court system by the FBI and DOJ was declassified. Trey Gowdy has a history of prosecuting high profile cases and investigating corruption in the government. He chaired the House Committee designated to investigating the Benghazi Scandal. During the investigation into Benghazi the committee discovered the use of Secretary Hillary Clinton's private e-mail server.
Why would he decide to step down from the House Ethics Committee if he only planned on finishing out his term as a member of the House?
Did Mr. Gowdy discover something in the House Intel. Committee that worried him so much he chose to resign and pursue a future in the courtroom?
Could this future be as a Special Prosecutor?
Trey Gowdy was a key player in both the Benghazi investigation and the on-going investigation into FISA corruption in the FBI and the DOJ relating to the Russia investigation. What would the scope of a Special Council led by Trey Gowdy be? Or would it be limitless like the Mueller's team? Of course, this is all conjecture on our part.
I will leave you with these words from Congressman's Gowdy's letter, "This is the right time, for me, to leave politics and return to the justice system."
