The José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon was chosen by the UEFA Executive Committee to host the 2025 Women’s Champions League final in Nyon, Switzerland this Wednesday.
UEFA reported that it will recommend FIFA to use a qualifying format for the 2026 World Cup, broken down into a group stage and some “play-offs”.
UEFA today held its Executive Committee meeting where it discussed the following proposals on the future of European competitions from 2024 onwards.
FEMALE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINALS 2025:
The José Alvalade Stadium in Lisbon was selected Venue for the 2025 Women’s Champions League final by the UEFA Executive Committeethis Wednesday in Nyon (Switzerland).
It is the second time that the José Avalade Stadium has hosted the final of this women’s tournamentafter Wolfsburg defeated Tyresö 4-3 in the 2013/14 season.
The Sporting de Portugal stadium replaces Eindhoven, which hosted the final of the season just ended in which Barça defeated Wolfsburg. UEFA also announced that San Mamés will host the final of the 2023/24 season.
World Cup 2026:
UEFA reported that it will recommend FIFA to use a qualification format divided into a group stage and some “play-offs”.
The UEFA Executive Committee declares that the group stage will have the traditional league format with Double round matches played in 12 groups of 4 or 5 teams eachbetween March and November 2025.
The first place finishers in each group qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup. The 12 seconds will take part in the “play-offs” that will be held in March 2026 with 16 teams.
The “play-offs” games will be played in the semi-finals in a single gamefollowed by single-game finals within the same international game window.
The 16 teams participating in these playoffs will be divided into four “playoff” routes of four teams each.
“However, an official decision on the matter will only be taken at the next meeting of the UEFA Executive Committee on April 19, with the aim of concluding the ongoing talks.“, the agency clarified in a statement.
